Bill Hefley

web-faculty-large-hefleyBill Hefley is a professor at the Naveen Jindal School of Management at the University of Texas at Dallas. Prior to this, he was on the faculty of the University of Pittsburgh and served as the Faculty Director for an innovative professional graduate program in service management at Carnegie Mellon University, where he also served as associate director of a research center focused on sourcing IT-based services. He received Ph.D. in Organization Science and Information Technology and M.S. degrees in Engineering and Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University, an M.S. degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California, a B.A. degree in Pyschology (with Honors) from San Jose State University and a B.S. degree in Computer Science and Political Science from the University of the State of New York (now Excelsion College). He holds professional certifications as a CCP, CDP, and COP.

Prior to pursuing an academic career, Dr. Hefley worked as global consultant in IT services and software management, project manager, software engineer and human factors specialist in global services, space systems, manufacturing and supply management and finance. He has consulted with a number of companies on process design and improvement.

Dr. Hefley’s teaching responsibilities are in the areas of IT strategy, project management and sustainability/corporate social responsibility. He has taught many executive-development seminars on the subjects of software development and management, project management, quality improvement, human resources management, and service strategy.

Dr. Hefley has published extensively, and his work with the eSourcing Capability Models and the People CMM are being used by many organizations globally. He is a Senior Member of Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Institute for Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). He is also a member of the International Society of Service Innovation Professionals (ISSIP), Service Research and Innovation Institute (SRII), American Psychological Association (APA), Association for Information Systems (AIS), Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES), Institute for Operations Research and Management Science (INFORMS), Institute for Supply Management (ISM), International Association for Outsourcing Professionals (IAOP), IT Service Management Forum USA (itSMF USA), and Sigma Xi. Dr. Hefley serves as series editor for two book series: Springer’s Service Science: Research and Innovations in the Service Economy and VanHaren’s ITSqc series.
