Biplav Srivastava

Biplav Srivastava is a Distinguished Data Scientist and Master Inventor at
IBM’s Chief Analytics Office. With over two decades of research experience
in Artificial Intelligence, Services Computing and Sustainability, most of
which was at IBM Research, Biplav is also an ACM Distinguished Scientist and
Distinguished Speaker, and IEEE Senior Member.

As an experienced AI researcher and technologist, Biplav is interested in
enabling people to make rational decisions despite real world complexities
of poor data, changing goals and limited resources by augmenting their
cognitive limitations with technology. Biplav’s business focus is
to create, lead and collaborate on efforts for adoption of AI technologies
in a large-scale global business context and understand their impact on workforce.
Technically, he is exploring new approaches for goal-oriented, ethical,
human-machine collaboration via natural interfaces using domain and
user models, learning, and planning.

Biplav’s work has lead to many science firsts and high-impact commercial
innovations ($B+), 150+ papers and 50+ US patents issued, and awards for papers,
demos and hacks. He has received major recognitions from IBM and external
community, interacted with commercial customers, universities and governments,
participated in Work Groups of international organizations like World Wide
Web Consortium (W3C) and Partnership on AI (PAI), and assisted business
leaders on technical issues. Biplav actively participates in professional
services globally including running the ‘AI in India’ virtual Google group
with ~250 members since 2010; organizing conference tracks, workshops and
tutorials, and as a Program Committee member for more than 50 events.
