Dr. Haluk Demirkan is an innovation and analytics evangelist, maestro, data gig, recognized leader, experienced practitioner (~ 20 years), awarded consultant, accomplished scholar (~ 15 years), active applied researcher, cross-disciplinary teacher, effective mentor, invited speaker, productive author (150+ pubs) and professional student. He is a Professor of Service Innovation and Business Analytics at University of Washington (UW), Tacoma , and the Co-Founder & Board of Director of International Society of Service Innovation Professionals (http://www.issip.org/), a non-profit organization co-founded by IBM, Cisco & HP to promote human-centered “smart” services for value & outcome.
His achievements brought him an ongoing international leadership and reputation in analytics, service innovation and digital transformation with service-oriented technology & management (e.g. smart services, big data, data lake, mobile/cloud/fog/ cognitive computing, internet-of-things, social media). In 2014, he was ranked 5th in Top-100 World-wide Researchers (the Association for Inf. Sys. sanctioned Rankings). In 2015, he received IBM Faculty Award from IBM Cognitive Systems Institute on “Deep Analytics & Learning: Leveraging Watson’s Deep Thinking & Smart Services”. In 2016, he was nominated for a Distinguished Research Award at UW-Tacoma.
With 20 years hands-on professional experience and 15 years accomplished scholar work, he is one of the unique scholars who has strong business understanding with deep technical background, and who can provide strategic, tactical, operational & organizational advisory & education services on analytics, service innovation & digital transformation, and digital marketing & advertising. He has been working in the field of analytics & digital solutions since his first job at the UF Industrial & Systems Engineering Department in 1993 (analytics-enabled process re-engineering & pricing models). He continued his analytics career at the AT&T Bell Labs Decision Support Systems, the Citibank’s Enterprise Data Warehousing and MicroStrategy as a Fellow/Technical Principle, ASU & UW. In 20 years, he co-created value at 40+ Fortune 500 companies to design, manage & implement enterprise solutions.
He servs as a Co-founder & Editor of an Applied Book Collection “Service Systems and Innovations in Business & Society”, Business Expert Press; an editor for the IEEE IT Professional & Decision Support Systems journals, a track chair for the Analytics, Mobile and Service Science Track at HICSS; and an advisory board member for Teradata University Network, Service Research & Innovation Institute, the Global Text Project, INFORMS Service Science.
He received a Ph.D. in Information Systems and Operations Management (dual concentration); Post Master of Eng. and Master of Eng. in Industrial and Systems Eng. from the University of Florida, and Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Eng. from Istanbul Technical University. He also holds a PMP Cert. from the Project Management Institute, and few other certifications in business process management & customer experience.
